FREEDOM WHEELS® Modified Bike Service

A sense of achievementWhat is FREEDOM WHEELS?

For most children, their first bike ride is a rite of passage. But for children with a disability, this can seem unachievable.

The FREEDOM WHEELS customised bike program is a joint undertaking by TADNSW and Amway’s One by One Foundation, giving many children with disabilities the opportunity to ride a bike for the first time.

How does it work?

TADNSW’s healthcare and engineering staff assess each child at a bike “clinic” and write a specification for a bike that will meet their exact needs. This may include stabiliser wheels, postural supports, belts, footcups, towbars and modified handlebars.

FREEDOM WHEELS is available to any child with a disability. Clients do not need to undergo a means test.

How much can I expect to pay?

Prices for a complete bike range from around $440 to a cap of $800, depending on the size of the bike and the type of modifications required.

How do I get a bike?

FREEDOM WHEELS is available throughout NSW and also in Queensland and Victoria through TAD’s sister organisations in each state.

Getting to know the bikeIf you're interested in one of these bikes, you can register for a bike clinic. Check our schedule for upcoming clinic dates and book early to avoid disappointment.

I still want to know more. Where can I get further information?

If you're still not sure, or want to know more about the details of the service, read through our Frequently Asked Questions. Alternatively, download our FREEDOM WHEELS Brochure.
